“Save, Lord! May the King answer us when we call” (vs9)
The believer's salvation is secured by the Savior. He succeeded, prevailed with God, and we'll prevail because He did. We come to God through Him (1 Pet 1:21). His people prayed concerning Him, “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you; may He send you help from the sanctuary, and strengthen you out of Zion; may He remember all your offerings, and accept your burnt sacrifice” (vs1-3).Therefore, if He succeeded at the cross, we'll assuredly be saved from all opposition.
He prayed for us, not the world, and He got to the throne by laying down His life for all the Father gave Him (John 17:9). We read again, “May He grant you according to your heart's desire, and fulfill all your purpose. We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions” (vs4-5). He did! His mission of justice and mercy was successful, and we're redeemed. It doesn't matter the obstacles, the weakness, or the wickedness in ourselves. God heard Christ, and He hears us for Christ's sake. He justified God to act mercifully, and now God joyfully saves according to His holy heart.
Secondly, since we're surely saved, rejoice and rest. We read, “ Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright” (vs6-8).” Don't walk around unforgiven or helpless. Don't look upon God as needing more than Christ gave, either from you or anyone else. Don't walk as if things are shaky. Many things trouble us, but we rest in God to conquer all.
Thirdly, rest produces love; it is the guarantee of salvation that makes us believe that we can do all things, endure all things, and we'll get even more to come. This is why the Psalmist confidently says, “Save, Lord! May the King answer us when we call” (vs9). Rest isn't slothful; it begins radical faith, whereby we love God.
Do you see the people praying for Christ and then themselves, saying, “May the Lord answer you”, and then, “May the King answer us”? Faith will always produces devotion. “You are saved” is God's word to compel diligence, hope, and increased dependence.
Finally, tell someone of this Savior. Use God's power to challenge yourself to obey God in your witness. You have a sure salvation to proclaim, and Christ already saved those who'll hear. At the cross, He earned the guarantee of the Holy Spirit, whereby they will hear. Victory is already achieved, and therefore, it shall be given.
