“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork... Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer”. (vs14)
If God is truly your redeemer, and you are saved, then He's revealed Himself to you three ways. You know Him by the light of creation, by the word of God, and by the inward reverence for Him in your heart.
Bless God. He gives these three witnesses to all who know Him for real.
First, we have the revelation of creation, in the sun, moon, and stars (vs1-6). It says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge”. The Lord made this world, and He reveals to everyone His eternal power and Godhead, so that we're without excuse (Rom 1:19-24). He shows His glory – that He's on a throne - and He reveals, by the sun, that we're subject to His holiness and should be worshipful of Him. We read, “Its rising is from one end of heaven, and its circuit to the other end; and there is nothing hidden from its heat”. If you have the light of nature, then you can draw near to the word of God, which speaks perfectly of who He is.
Secondly, the word of God reveals the saving character of Christ (vs7-11). We read, “The law of the Lord is perfect, returning the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple [ the easily deceived]”. We can't know God by nature only, for we don't see forgiveness of sins, the way of escape by faith, or the grace of God. He reveals it to us by His teaching. Thus, the bible contains the message of Jesus Christ, whereby we know forgiveness by His blood, acceptance by faith alone, and we know that He chose us before the world began. God's word teaches us how to live, and EVERYTHING it says is true. We read, “The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honey comb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward”. We may lean ourselves entirely upon His teaching, and we'll be rewarded for every inch of obedience.
God's word teaches us to lean on the Spirit to accomplish what we cannot in the flesh. It frees us from condemnation, puts fear in our heart, and it teaches us how to walk by God's will, instead of our own.
Thirdly, God reveals Himself to the heart (vs12-14). We read, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer”. The conscience sees creation, and God's word TESTIFIES to us, but God comes into our heart by the gospel and we worship Him reverently. His indwelling word causes us to say, “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.” We treat Him as more precious than anything, and we surrender ourselves to His will. The Psalmist heard the word, and it made him plead with God for obedience, and it does the same with you. We say, “Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous [proud] sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression”. No one hears from God savingly who does not beg Him, day by day, to walk pleasing in His sight. We see Him as boss, so we bow. We see Him as Savior, so we lean.
Finally, don't come short of conviction and dependence. The word of Christ is only saving, when pleasing Christ is #1, and there is no #2.
