“At the Right Hand of the Majesty On High” (Heb 1:1-3)

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had through Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

WHO IS JESUS?

  1. Jesus Christ is heir of everything in heaven and in earth (vS2). He is the heir of salvation, judgment, and power. He's the heir of God's glory, equality with God, and victory over all enemies. He's inherited all pleasure, deservedly. He is King Jesus.
  1. He is the Creator, the Plan A of God, and the reason of all existence. We read, “through whom also [God] made the worlds”. He is the highest for all time and eternity. Ephesians 1:19-21 says, “and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come”. It was God's purpose to save us by the blood of Christ from the beginning, from before He said, “Let there be light”.
  1. He is God's Shine, the very beauty and majesty of God, “the brightness of His glory and the express image of His Person” (vs3). He is God's power to redeem, His love, and His glory manifested. He is why God is worthy of praise and reverent majesty. He is the reflection of God, the embodiment of the Invisible, the image of the Unseen. He is God's beauty and God in every way. “But to the Son He says: Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom” (Hebrews 1:8).

    4. He reigns now, “upholding all things by the word of His power” (vs3). He is no coming king, helplessly biding time. He presently is ruling all things, giving life to whom He will, and doing as He wills in the armies of heaven. Daniel 4 says, “For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, What have You done?” He controls life and death, time and eternity, right now, at the Father's right hand and in harmony with Him. He reigns absolutely, and all the earth does His purpose.

    5. He did the work Himself, by Himself, “when He had through Himself purged our sins” (vs3). He got no help from man and presented nothing less than Himself, a sacrifice for sin. He died for sins payment, purged it from the Lamb's children, and rose victorious, carrying it away. He is the One who died to save, giving all that He had. He says, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends” (John 15:13).

    6. He rests now, His work is done, having “sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (vs3). He rules by His will, with all temptations gone, and He's entered His promised rest, victorious over sin.

Finally, hang on Christian. He rules for you, helps you, and pardons you. He loves you justifiably, according to strictest of standards, having paid your debt to God. Be free of human opinion and worship God, the Son, by the Spirit.
