So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. (vs40-42)
When the need is desperate, then we come to the Son of God, and the need is desperate for me. How can I overcome sin? That is a question that must be answered. It must be atoned, paid for in full by Christ, and it must be conquered by the Holy Spirit. The desperate come to the Lord Jesus, and He gives us the victory that we need.
The Gaderenes asked the Son to leave, and He obliged (Luke 8:37). But, these people in Galilee were waiting on Him, in need. A man comes, he has only one daughter, and she is almost dead. He can't heal her, so he comes to the only One who can, the Lord, “and he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged Him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying” (vs42).
Here is another woman. She's had an uncontrollable flow of blood for twelves years and has spent all she has on useless physicians. They couldn't cure the impurity coming out of her. But, the Lord said, “Who touched Me... for I perceived power going out from Me”, so that it went out of Him into her, and He remains full, but she gets the needed strength to conquer (vs45-46).
He says to this woman, “Daughter, be of courage; your faith has made you well. Go in peace” (vs48). 'You are forgiven, in the family, and you have the Spirit. Only believe that I'm with you to obey Me, and you will do it. I'm at peace with you'.
These words must assure us that our desperate need has been answered. The Lord gave His life, so that He could give grace to sinners. You believe this grace is yours, and dead lives will give the warmth of life, and uncontrolled wickedness, flowing from you, will be stopped, subdued by the Spirit, atoned by the blood.
