“God Has Blessed You Forever” (Ps 45)

My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever. (vs1-2)

The Lord Jesus Christ is rightfully exalted as the gracious giver of eternal life (vs1-10). He says, “You are fairer than the sons of men; grace is poured upon Your lips; therefore God has blessed You forever”, and again, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions. All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia, Out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad.” He preaches peace to us earned by His shed blood, and He came doing good to sinners who deserve wrath. He is enthroned because He obeyed God and reveals His glory as a just God and a Savior. He is the reason that God can forgive sins, and when He comes in the gospel, He willingly and freely gives what He has earned to us who are dead in sins. The grace of God and the graciousness of Christ have met in harmony, and God has said, “Sit thou on my right hand until I make your foes your footstool”, and, “This is what shall be done to the man whom the King delights to honor”. Don't see Him unworthy.

He is worshiped because God has exalted Him (vs10-11). It says, “Listen, O daughter, Consider and incline your ear; Forget your own people also, and your father’s house; So the King will greatly desire your beauty; Because He is your Lord, worship Him”. We bow to Him because of His greatness, as shown to us by God, so we say, “Amen”, and we yield. He is not special “just because”, but because He is God's Son, the obedient One, the One in whom God has put salvation. The terms are BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, even as Pharaoh sent the hungry people to Joseph for bread. You and I are to bow down to Him as Lord and Savior, believing upon Him for righteousness, strength, and the way to walk with God, yielding ourselves to Christ as the merciful and worthy King. He promises a reward.

The reward of serving Christ is great; we shall be praised forever as the favored of God, the most blessed, the people that God's given eternal life (vs12-17). He says, “Instead of Your fathers shall be Your sons, Whom You shall make princes in all the earth. I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever..

Indeed, you and I lose now, as we bow to Him, even as a woman must forsake her own house to be married. But, in the process, she gets sons and daughters, even as we will, princes and kings. We get MORE out of obedience that we lose by forsaking sin; it is WORTH it, and He bids us by the glory that's been given to Christ to come and receive the joy, peace, and salvation that comes by believing.
