“Grind Him to Powder” (Luke 20:9-19)

Then He looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'? Whoever falls on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.” (vs17-18)

Consequences for rejecting Christ are eternal and drastic. This is no, “Take it or leave it”, “believe if you want” gospel. This is life and death eternal, heaven and hell. Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live”. You don't want to be on the wrong side in the End, because the One who would have saved you, who wept over the people He would punish, will assuredly and justly damn you. People think fighting God in unbelief is our right, and we can choose our own way, but it is rebellion and the murder of God's Son (Acts 2:23). We bow to Him, or we murder Him, and justice, according to the scriptures and all fairness, must and will be served. Christ said, “Then the owner of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him. But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them? He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to others” (Luke 20:13-16).

The remedy is to glorify God, fear Him, and be thankful for His love; it is to please Him by the mercy that He gives, trusting Him to pay for your sins, make you righteous, and guide you to a fruitful life. Revelations 14:7 says, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water”.

The problem isn't fairness in God or undue wrath; it's men and women refusing to glorify God, rejecting Christ, and thereby bringing wrath upon themselves, which will “grind him to powder”. Assuredly, if He had not warned us, He's to blame, but we can't blame Him for making the way so clear. And, you and I know, that if any one of these men, or all of them, fell before Him for mercy, they'd be saved.
