“The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be caught in the plots which they have devised. For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire; he blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts” (vs2-4).
The wicked is heading to hell, resisting God, and fighting against His people (vs1-6). We read, “The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts”. He thinks that he gets over and that he'll succeed, but even if he appears to win now, destruction is sure.
When we see God on our side by faith in Christ, God with us to obey His word, and God against all who oppose the grace of the gospel, we know assuredly that our foes will be defeated. They may be mightier than us, but they are not mightier than God, and being WICKED, they'll be defeated in the end.
Secondly, the wicked have wickedness in mind, no matter what they do (vs7-11). We read, “He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den; he lies in wait to catch the poor; He catches the poor when he draws him into his net. So he crouches, he lies low, that the helpless may fall by his strength.” He may appear humble and lowly, but he only bows to spring upon you in the end. He may have soft words and many smiles for you, but he seeks to take worship to himself, to destroy complete freedom in Christ, and he wants the honor that goes to God only.
You can't judge by appearances. Our Lord said, “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters” (Luke 11:23). Thus, you must judge righteously, by the word of God, or the man whom you think is your messenger of good, may well be the devil to lead you astray. You can't trust anyone blindly. All must be obeyed in harmony with Christ.
Thirdly, the Lord helps the afflicted and the helpless, even all who walk by faith (vs12-18). He has called us to surrender all to Him, to live a life that we can't live naturally, and He'll help us do it. We read, “But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand. The helpless commits himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless”.
We who've chosen the way of righteousness, though unable to perform our purpose naturally, will be given supernatural strength. The tempter will be defeated, the Spirit will break the lusting flesh, and the blood of Christ has already earned grace in all its sufficiency. We may be forced to walk by faith, but it won't be denied. We may have to look to God for salvation, rather than saving ourselves by wickedness, but salvation will come in the end. You who love and serve Christ have nothing to fear.
