“There Is No Help For Him in God” (Ps 3)

LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are they who say of me, 'There is no help for him in God.' (vs1-2)

My conscience, false friends, and enemies all say, "It's over for you”, “There's no help for you in God”, and, “You're wasting your time. You can't conquer sin”. They say, “You're a hypocrite, having fallen already”.  These insinuations and slanders must be endured.  It may be the wife, the boss, or the science teacher.  But, they say, "Curse God and die”, “Don't waste your life denying the flesh”, and, “God isn't real".  They may intend no harm in their mind, but everyone who tells you not to believe, by their actions and words, is telling you to quit Christ also.  They say, “It can't be done”, “Put it off until later”, or “Slow down”, etc.  Everyone but the church is AGAINST you.  Our Lord said, "He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters. (Luke 11:23)”.

Don't let it trouble you.  God, according to His promise, is on your side, and all who believe on Him shall be saved.  He's reconciled us to Himself, gives us grace, and He promises to help us all the way through, even unto heaven's bliss.  Believe Him continually.  Never let anything keep you from trusting what God says above men.  Don't let your own conscience cry out, "lost" and "forsaken" without replying, "saved by grace", "forgiven by the blood of Jesus", and "promised the power of the Spirit".

Secondly, say what you want against God to His children, but He hears His saints and saves us every time (vs3-4). We read, “I cried to the LORD with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill.” He actually, through the blood of Christ, hears us all the way to blessing us from His holy throne. Sin doesn't reign over us, the devil doesn't rule inside of us, and God through prayer is Helper to the afflicted. He says, “I cried to the Lord”.

After our failures, He hears the sorrows of repentance and strengthens us against sin, not by merit but by blood and mercy.  He makes us pray and search His truth, so that He can answer us according to goodness.  He never forsakes the cry of faith, but even when "no" is the answer in some particular, He still brings us to heaven, working all for our good.  There is no possibility of God refusing any who trust Him, leaning our time and eternity on His word.  He doesn't demand faith and then deny it.  He doesn't give faith and then refuse to receive it.

Finally, take courage.  Your enemies won't win, and God's on your side (vs5-8).  We may be bold, now that He fights for us, assuring ourselves and openly avowing His salvation as real. Say with the Psalmist, “Arise, O LORD; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.” It's already happened because it is sure. We are safe in the hands of Him who rules all, for none are stronger than our faithful God (John 10:28-30). Thus, we repose on His word when persecutions and blasphemies must be endured.  We don't shake and cower, nor are we told to doubt.  We are sure and persuaded by God that He's our Helper and our foes are defeated. Therefore, like the Psalmist, we say, “I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around”. Let them mock, point fingers, and challenge your hope in God.  Stand upon what is written in boldness, believing God, which is what believers do!
