Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping. The LORD has heard my supplication; The LORD will receive my prayer. Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly. (vs8-10)
I feel like the Psalmist, "The Lord has heard the voice of my weeping”. Therefore, "Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly".
I have distresses that make me weep, situations that bring me distress, and yet, God's heard me for Christs sake, so the grace has come to meet my need. Not only does He forgive sin completely, but this enables us to serve Him zealously, which thrills our hearts. The remedy for misery is God, and we've obtained His help. He will help us obey His word in our hearts and life. He will grant us fellowship of the Spirit, the power of success, and the joy of surrender.
Our lives lack excitement and purpose, but reconciliation to God's will SUDDENLY brings this to us. Our enemies are defeated. We've walked in half pardon, doubted present usefulness because of present failures, and taken a lower place than free born sons, privileged with God's favor (Gal 4:6-7). Now, suddenly, we see forgiveness is complete, and reconciliation is unto obedience (2 Cor 4:14-17). We experience life, pleasure, satisfaction, purpose, and safety. Suddenly, the blinders are removed, the back is straightened, and we walk with God. Suddenly, we're with Him who pleases us, rather than feeling far away and barred from entry. Suddenly, the power of godliness is in us to obey.
This is hope to the weary and heavily burdened. He said, “O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure” (vs1). Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled; but You, O Lord – how long? Return, O Lord, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies' sake! For in death there is no remembrance of you; in the grave who will give You thanks? I am weary with my groaning; all night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears. My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows old because of all my enemies”. Then, suddenly, “Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping” (vs1-8). It is hope to the miserable. He says again, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled” (vs2). God has heard your prayer because Christ has put away your sins, and made you, though sad and miserable by your own efforts, safe and worthy of His reward in Christ. This is not because of human merit or ability. He said, “Return, O Lord, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies' sake! (vs4). Bless God, suddenly, He's yours.
