“In His Law He Meditates Day and Night” (Ps 1:1-6)

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.(vs1-2)

The believer is a man or woman of new faculties, a new nature, and resolve toward God. We read, “in His law he meditates day and night”. Just as humans breathe and think, the new creation believes and receives grace from God, minding the gospel, and living by the commands of scripture. He is not self-governed, and he follows no other way. He walks with God, faults and all, as the direction of his life.

Blessed of God to live godly, he is blessed of God with the fruit of godliness, even everlasting life and peace. We read, “He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper (vs3).” All things work for his good, for he's in covenant with God, walking by faith, doing the commands (Rom 8:28-30). It is not possible that he'd be forsaken, for he is faithful, proving his election is real.
However, it is not the same for all people. God says, “The ungodly are not so... the ungodly shall not stand in judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous” (vs5). Many are perishing and dying in their sins! They want the REWARD of righteousness, but they want nothing to do with faith, love, and heavenly mindedness. They want heaven, while they live for the earth, but it will not be (Eccl 8:13).

It wouldn't be right for God to reward the righteous the same as the evil, for where is justice? Where is motive for godliness? No, it shall not be well with everyone. Many who choose their ways down here below will be rejected from heaven above and cast into the lake of fire that burns eternally. This separation between wheat and tares, good and evil, must catch us internally and drive us to good deeds. We must be heavenly minded now, if we want heaven in the end.
