Christianity (Stuart Olyott)

Christianity, then, is not a religion of forms and ceremonies, offerings and liturgies, priests and mysteries, do's and don'ts, altars and candles, robes, plates, incense, crosses, pictures, icons, bells, sacrifices, or anything remotely similar. Any religion which gives attention to these things is not Christianity, which is concerned with God's gift of grace in the heart. Its characteristics are trust in the finished work of Christ and open allegiance to him, together with the bearing of the reproach that this brings. It longs for heaven, communicates with the God of heaven, approaches him constantly through Christ, is filled with overflowing praise and thankfulness to him, and, for his sake, lives for the welfare of others.
