“Interpretations Belong to God” (Gen 40-41)

“And they said to him, We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. So Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.” (Gen 40:8)

The Son reveals God and the future of men and women. He reveals who shall be saved, those who believe on Him, and who shall be damned, those who've been ORDAINED to destruction since the Fall (1 Pet 2:7-8). He reveals that God has purposed to save believers from the world's foundation, giving us faith and obedience to Christ, love for Him. But, He has wisely and justly consigned unbelievers to punishment for offending Him, ordaining their rebellion to accomplish the purpose of wrath against them. This God reveals your and my eternity, and it is unfolded by what we think of Christ.

Secondly, the Lord Jesus got to God's throne by way of the cross, and He EARNED His position. We read, “And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God? Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you” (Gen 41:39-40). He has sinlessly obeyed and honored God amidst the most strident of false accusations and afflictions. He has been mocked, forgotten, and ridiculed. Yet, all the earth shall know His absolute holiness, as He never sinned, died to save His church, and now rightfully is exalted to rule. Who is wiser than Jesus Christ and more worthy to enthronement? Who but the Holy Savior should rule? God put Him on the throne for salvation, because His wisdom, as revealed by the cross, is superior to the wickedness of sin, and He may justly bless us for Christ's sake.

Thirdly, if you want salvation, then DO what the Son says. We read again, “So when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. Then Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, do” (Gen 41:55). He's been entrusted with power, so obey Him. If you want peace, then believe on the Son and it will be given. If you want peace to abide, then continually believe and return amidst your doubts and fears. If you want peace then trust Him to give you the holiness of heart that desires His will, that serves Him in reconciliation, by the Spirit, and not the fleshly efforts at self-exaltation. Trust Him with all your heart and live the new life that He's called you too, being who you are, not “religious” and proud, but humble, gentle, and forgiving, so that your light may shine. If you want what only Christ can give – the fruit of the Spirit – then lean on His grace and willfully obey, saying, “It is better to obey, to do His bidding, than to do my own. I am famished by sin”.
