“Let Me Not Wander From Your Commandments” (Ps 119:9-16)

How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! (vs9-10)

Lord, I put everything on you.  He says, “Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments”.  Be my Savior, uphold me, keep me from falling.  Do everything.

Dependence is our life in Christ, leaning upon Him.  Faith RECEIVES before giving, and it does by the power of Christ, as reconciled, looking for blessings, and communing with God.  We don't walk alone, but we are hand in hand with Him who died for us, rose again, and is now with us by Spirit power, revealing our ability in Christ.  "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we askor think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever amd ever.  Amen" (Eph 3:20-21).  Never go alone, but call on Him.  Never feel left to yourself, but lean.

We do this by taking heed to His word, confidently trusting in Him for His will.  Walking by faith is God’s way, by His Spirit, through the Son who loves you.

Secondly, don't condemn me, but teach (vs11-12). He says, “Blessed are You, O Lord! teach me Your statutes”.  Don't leave me to my ways, but TEACH me Your statutes, commands, and will.  Teach me how to walk uprightly, as forgiven and blessed.  Teach me faith, love, and hope.  Teach me so that I may help others, for this is your will.  "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us" (1 john 5:14).  Yes.  I'm the disciple, learning Your ways from you, willing to be taught, for it’s better than damnation.

I don't seek my own way to instruct You, but humbling myself, I am the babe, the fool, the needy, and you're the providing God.  You're  glorified in goodness, wisdom, and patience.  Teach me, so that I may please You.  Mould me for life.

This prayer is our new desire in Christ, the gift He’s freely given.

Finally, because of grace, and no other reason, I'm resolved (vs13-16).  He says, “I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways.  I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word”. My heart is fixed on Christ, and I'm determined to know nothing but Christ - who He is, what He’s done, and how to honor Him in the scriptures and conduct, “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Cor 2:2).  I have received newness of life, and Jesus is all.

This brazen statement isn't pride; its resolve.  We see Chris ast worth living for, and we forsake all and follow Him.  He's the Pearl of Great Price by whom God made the world, the reason why everything exists, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. all things were created through Him and for Him” (Col 1:16).  We're in agreement with God.  We aren't tossed by the devils at their will, but we're resolved to live for Christ, like the apostles, because dying is gain.

Don't miss the joy of determination and direction.  Plot your path in harmony with God, trusting Him to bring your goodness to pass.  Don't be ashamed of resolve.  CONFESS your devotion for Him - it is never meritorious or self-started; it is something God will assuredly finish, a sacrifice well pleasing to Him, and nothing more than what is commanded.  Many are scared of confidence in Christ that says, "I will", and "I'm determined", but we're righteous in our resolve, so long as Christ is the beginning and the end: the power and the goal.
