“In Him I Will Trust” (Ps 91)

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust” (vs1-2).

I put my trust in Jesus the Son of God and no one else (vs1-2). He says, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust”. No one else can save, and vain is the help of man. Humans will let you down, and your own ingenuity deceives you. God ALONE can be trusted with our welfare and eternity. God alone can keep us from sin.

Those who trust Christ will be victorious in the end, because you've chosen One who rules your enemies. He says, “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name” (vs14). There is no possibility of Him rejecting faith or failing to save.

Secondly, we shall conquer everything that comes against us, no matter how dangerous and destructive (vs3-13). He says, “No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.” This verse isn't literally interpreted, but spiritual. The lions and vipers are not animals at the zoo, but spiritual obstacles and demons dead set against us. Let us never be ashamed of the gospel, thinking that we can't have joy, we can't obey, or we can't overcome the situation. It isn't true. Let the devil scheme, and he will, but it will not come near to destroying you. You'll feel depressed, rejected by God, and alone in this world, and you'll feel tempted beyond what you think is fair, but the Lord has given promise, and who can say, “He lies”? He is UTTERLY true!

He who rules the devil, rules everything that ever happens for your good, having already predestined the end from the beginning. We read, “Known to God from eternity are all His works” (Acts 15:18). You and I must get to the other side, but we're THERE in the mind and purpose of Christ, so that it cannot change. The Lord controls the storms, we call on Him, and He speaks peace to the seas, every time (Mark 4:39). There will never be a temptation or situation that will take you away from Christ into apostasy and destruction. At all times, you're kept by God's power through faith (1 Pet 1:5). And, when you and I fall, we GET repentance, freely, as the gift of God. He is the FIRST cause of mercy, and having SAVED you on purpose, given you faith in Christ, and promised you salvation, He WON'T go back on His word. Utter SAFETY is the joy of God's elect!

Finally, the end of trials and our existence is God's salvation revealed to us by experience, whereby we're satisfied with pleasure in His presence (vs14-16). He says, “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation”. We will experience freedom from sin eventually, and the victories of today foreshadow a greater Day that is coming, when sin, Satan, and TROUBLE are GONE forever!

Bless His matchless name for the beauty of the promise. We are SAFE in the Lord Jesus Christ and heading, assuredly, to heaven. Storms will not impede us - they make the journey hard, but they will not stop nor delay us. God has ordained our bliss, given His Son, given His promise, and He'll give the nations to bring it to pass. He says, “For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you; therefore I will give men for you, and people for your life (Is 43:3-4).”

He didn't create us to be destroyed: He intended that we'd praise Him for His salvation, rejoice in His sight, be holy by His grace, and utterly satisfied with Him continually.

I beg you: Believe the promise of God.
