" And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.
If we bring our needs to Christ, caring about others and presenting our burdens to Him, then He will help us. We are unworthy, but believing that He'll help anyway is the GREAT faith that He uses - “When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, "I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!" (vs9)
He doesn't help the worthy, because there are none. But, He does reward faith, and when I believe that in spite of my past, present, and future sin, He will still help me by His power and might, then I will be helped indeed.
First, the Centurion, cared about his servant, so that he had a reason to come to Christ. This servant who was “dear to him, was sick and ready to die. So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant” (vs2-3).
If you don't care, then come to Him to care, confessing your cold selfish heart. He'll give you love for people, so that He can help them.
Secondly, perfect prayer isn't needed. The Son was coming to help the man, even when “worthiness” was in the picture. The Jews said, “the one for whom He should do this was deserving, for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue” (vs5). Christ didn't despise him. He knew this man's faith, even though it was clouded by sinful unbelief and self-importance. But, the Lord helped the man when He heard that He didn't even need to be there: the man believed the POWER of Christ was enough. He said, “But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it” (vs7-8).
Thirdly, Christ is able to help ANYONE that He sees fit. No situation is hard for Him at all.
He rules Satan absolutely and has power over all that would hinder our miracle. Difficulties are but a thread to him, a leaf of grass, an insignificant nothing of an obstacle, so that when He speaks, when He says, “Do this”, the DEVILS must obey Him.
You don't worship a weak Christ who needs to barter with Satan, who returns and says, “I'm sorry. He won't let Me have this one.” But, your Savior is God. Your Helper is the Almighty.
He can and will help, according to His will. As you see SIN in your life, know that He'll help, according to His word. You CAN do His will, not because you're worthy, but because of His power and the FACT that He works by faith.
Lastly, believe that He will help you, and BRING some need to Him. Bring Him something that He ALONE can fix, something that hurts. And, UNWORTHY or not, expect the power of Christ to work for you, deliver you, and give you what you need.
Thanks for this message, often times I get discouraged by my sin, but I know that if I trust Christ, he will give it to me to obey him. Thanks for reminding me!
