“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord” (vs8)
First, finding grace in God's eyes is what matters. If we have this, then we have everything and lack nothing: He loves, cares for, redeems, and He will surely save us. If we find grace in God's eyes, heaven is sure, sin is past, and we have life eternal. Finding grace in God's eyes is both irresistible and to be sought with all your might.
God doesn't say, “Noah found grace, so wait and hope that you do. And, I’ll call you, if you do”, but He says, “ask”, “seek”, and “knock”. It SHALL be opened to you - “For everyone that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks, it shall be opened” (Matt 7:7-8). We are to believe that we have found grace because we hear the gospel.
Yet, secondly, finding grace is TOTALLY outside of human ability, merit, or decisions - “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord” (vs8). No man finds grace in the eyes of God because he was looking for it; we find grace in God's eyes and know it because we are found. He loved us before we loved Him, and while we spewed hatred and rebellion, He accomplished redemption, brought us back to Himself, and gave us love for the Redeemer (1 John 4:8-10).
Finding grace, thirdly, is the high of life (vs8). You KNOW your soul is secure, and He transforms you into His likeness, so that others find grace too. Noah, being commissioned, built the ark, and it is said, “Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God”. Thus, these three things are true of everyone who finds grace with God (Gen 6:9):
- We are righteous, not just by imputation, but actually and really before God and within.
- We are perfect or fruitful in the earth. The same God who saved us gives us GRACE to live godly in this present world, even though men stumble in sin (2 Pet 1:4). We are not taken away from the world, but grace makes us shine in it.
- We walk with God. Grace makes us gracious, and it makes us love, need, and enjoy our fellowship with God. Grace makes God a friend, Someone trusted, and the benefit is our every day life and help to those around us.
Finally, find grace in the eyes of the Lord. Don't sit on your hands, but BELIEVE on His goodness and know His love.
