“The Synagogues of Galilee” (Luke 4:31-44)

He went to sinners:

“And when it was day, He departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto He, and held Him, that He should not depart from them.  And He said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.  And He preached in the synagogues of Galilee” (Luke 4:42-44).

The Lord Jesus went to sinners after he left the clinging souls at Capernaum, and if you’re a sinner, then He’ll NEVER leave nor forsake you.  In His exaltation, He fills the church, being all places NEEDED at the same time, exhibiting power over sin.  He is the Authority who casts Satan out and constrains relieved people to love and adore Him.

Jesus’ power over Satan is manifested by forbidding devils to speak, casting them out, and healing ALL whom they’ve afflicted of WHATEVER the problem - “Then He went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the Sabbaths.   And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority.   Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice,  saying, ‘Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are––the Holy One of God!’   But Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be quiet, and come out of him!’ And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him.  Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, ‘What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.’  And the report about Him went out into every place in the surrounding region. (vs31-37)

Peter’s mother in law had a problem with the wrath of God, and her fever was hot, but the Lord REBUKED the fever, telling it to go away, even as He bore her pain and gives her life in reconciliation.  Death is answered, so the believer is saved - “Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her.  So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them” (vs38-39).

The Lord never failed to heal. It doesn’t matter your fear, doubt, grief, or shame. It doesn’t matter what hurts: He gives you peace, power, and love. He makes you obey and gives the joy of obedience, so that you love Him freely and gladly by the knowledge of grace - “Now when the sun was setting“, when life is almost over in the few days that we have to be saved, “all they that had any sick with various diseases brought them unto Him, and He laid His hands on everyone of them, and healed them. And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of God!’ And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ” (vs40-41).

He has power to cast out and power to heal.  Cleave unto Him, not only for yourself, but for others. Ask Him to save sinners that you care about, and bring them to Him.  Bring their needs, cares, and condition. Bring them in their sinfulness because they CAN’T bring or pray for themselves.

The demons will cry out, but Christ silences them, casts them out, and He makes the once possessed who feared and desired NOTHING of Him to rejoice, cling to Him, and desire nothing BUT Him.  Oh, the wonder of grace!
