“Open To Me” (Song 5:2-6)

“I sleep, but my heart wakes: it is the voice of my beloved that knocks, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night. I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?” (vs2-3)

This command isn’t an option: "Open to me", He says, and we open, if we want fellowship.

We don’t rule the Son, so obedience is how we get fellowship, and by obedience, it's kept.  He says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls” (Matt 11:29).  Don’t fool yourself, thinking, “I sit a queen and nothing shall disturb me”. Don’t say, “I’m favored, so I can sin”.  Sin SEPARATES between us and God, so receive His commands, and you'll have Christ.

He brings pleasure, rest, and makes life enjoyable... all else is empty and miserable… so open to Him, receive His love, or SUFFER Christ’s departing.  We keep Him by obedience; He fellowships with us, peace reigns within, and we're happy.  "Open", therefore, is a gracious command, and we obey for rewards unknown, but revealed to us by the Spirit - “But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him. But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit” (1 Cor 2:9-10).  This "secret" is only with those fearing Him in the new covenant obedience of faith, whereby we receive Him as the only peace.

Bless the King that He comes again in the gospel, and receives us, though He demands we suffer, until His peace returns.  She said, “My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him.  I rose up to open to my beloved… I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spoke: I sought him, but he gave me no answer” (Song 5:4-6).  Learn by His absence that He is dear!  You will love Him better, confess your need more quickly, and you'll trust both His keeping power and pardoning love.
