“Do Likewise” (Judges 7:17-20)

“And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall you do” (vs17).

We must say, “Do like me“, if we want to lead and preach.  Only as examples can we be saviors and leaders of others (1 Pet 5:3).

Our life must be in order for us to help someone else, because we help with the help that we’ve received - “Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God“ (2 Cor 1:4).  We can’t preach theory, but experience (what we’ve seen and felt) must lead us. We can’t preach from the logic of a + b = c; we must preach from our dealings with Christ, and mercy we’ve received.

I’ve preached on obedience because God’s taught me to obey, by faith.  He‘s revealed I‘m to honor God - that Christ is Lord, obey Him only, and He’s my reward - “After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am your shield, and your exceeding great reward” (Gen 15:1).  We obey by the Spirit, given freely to us; we obey the truth by loving people with our lives and honoring Him who loved us.

No obedience = no teaching.  Learn for yourself, so you can teach the wife or the husband by actions… so that the children or the church may learn from your example of zeal and patience.

Study to live rightly, and you'll have words and a walk that helps others, by the Christ that you've experienced.
