“Bear you one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (vs2)
Christ’s law, different from the old covenant, is that we LOVE one another, bringing each other to Jesus Christ. Some have a love, but it has nothing to do with Christ and God’s glory; it is selfish , humanistic, and utterly depraved. The love of saints MANIFESTS itself in laboring together for Christ’s glory and our good spiritually. It is written that the STRONG are to help weaker brethren see Christ and honor Him, “if a man be overtaken in a fault, you which are spiritual, RESTORE such a one in the spirit of meekness”, in submission to God who saves, “considering yourself”, how unable you are to do anything apart from Christ’s grace, “lest you also be tempted”, and suffer for your pride and legalism (Gal 6:1). Yes, God’s gospel makes us help people with the gospel of God in meekness; it has nothing to do with head knowledge that cannot help. The gospel’s end is LOVE out of a pure heart, clean conscience, and unfeigned faith (1 Tim 1:5-7). God’s gospel PRODUCES good in those that have received Jesus, and this is the test of faith: not what I can recite, but what I do with what I’ve heard.
If you will help men, then you must preach Christ. Know that NO ONE helps but God, and you and I cannot obey the rules of God apart from GRACE, so elevate grace, so that misery can be comforted and FAITH can latch on to God, rather than men. Don’t say, “Do better”; it is legal gibberish. Teach SINNERS and saints to BELIEVE better, a more holy and gracious God, so they can do by faith.
The gospel TRANSFORMS people, and our lot is to BE transformed, so we can HELP people.
