DISTINCTIVES: What Makes The Gospel Church, Sunnyvale CA, Unique Among Churches in the World?

1. We are not the only ones preaching sovereign grace, the message of salvation by electing love, by faith in Jesus Christ the Sovereign, unto good works, according to the Scriptures.  But, we are one of the few churches that preaches Jesus Christ, and Him crucified, in every message, exalting the GRACE of God (Luke 24:25-27; 1 Cor 1:17-2:2; Rom 9:6-29).

2.  We believe salvation is ALL of grace, earned by God’s Son, the Lord Jesus, on behalf of all the Father gave Him, even all who shall believe (Acts 2:39). We believe and preach that God chose us from the foundation of the world, redeemed us “out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation”, and He shall save everyone whose name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, alone (Rev 5:9; Rev 13:8).

3. We believe and practice a salvation that makes men holy by God the Holy Spirit, that as we look to Christ and receive the blessings that He earned, God works in us to please and honor God in uprightness of character and love (Heb 13:20-21).

4.  We believe God is unfailing, so our only hope is to trust this God who actually works salvation according to His will, performing, giving, and sanctifying us by the blood of His Son (Eph 1:11). Jesus earned the eternal redemption and everlasting mercies that we receive (Heb 9:14-15).

5.  The church, that local assembly of the saints, is not to be forsaken, but we are to “consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more as you see the day approaching” (Heb 10:24-25).

6. We believe and are devoted to the bible alone as the word of God, not dreams, visions, or lying signs and wonders sent to distract and deceive (Matt 24:24). We believe and prove from scripture that only the Apostles had power to pass on spiritual gifts, and when they finished their race on earth, the church no longer had the need or the power of miraculous signs to verify the Apostle’s doctrine (Acts 8:13-19). Therefore, the signs died out, as those that had been gifted by the Apostles, died out shortly after them (2 Cor 12:12).

7.  We believe and declare that hell is eternal and heaven is the believer’s resting place: there is no paradise to be gained here; only after we leave this world do we enter our rest, perfectly enjoying Christ to sin, weep, and agonize no more (Rev 14:11-13)!

8. We believe that all who believe God, not a particular doctrine… but God for who He is… are justified from all things, even the law (Acts 13:39). The believer’s rule of life is the NEW COVENANT and not the law (Galatians, the whole book, Rom 6, the entire book of Hebrews, etc). The new covenant gives what the law commanded, which is love, so that believers walk with God in new covenant obedience, demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit. But, we are not bound by the law or the tithe in any way: we give (2 Cor 8-9; Eph 4:28).

9.  We believe and rely upon the Holy Spirit, who is God ruling the world in submission to Christ, to regenerate, enlighten, reprove, and keep God’s elect by the preached word (Rom 10:17; I Cor 2; 2 Thess 2:13; 1 Pet 1:2).  We do not believe in once saved always saved, if the salvation doesn’t keep a person following God, for the sheep hear His voice and follow Him (John 10:27-28).

10. We believe that all churches that preach God’s grace and practice holiness and obedience to Christ are FAITHFUL gospel churches, regardless of the minor differences we may have. We count them brothers in Christ and fellow soldiers in this world (Acts 15:39-40).
