“Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you” (1 Thess 3:11).
Prayer involves the helplessness of the person praying. The obstacles are strong, disappointments are GREAT, and yet God is controlling everything for good. So, we’ve SUFFERED and broken heartedness has abounded by our chastisements and our suffering for righteousness’ sake. Either way, God makes us BOW to Him, saying, “You’re the Boss. You rule. You do as you wish in heaven and in earth. You have mercy on your own and do things your way. You are not allowing anyone to reign except the Lord and the commandments He COMMANDS us to keep. You are obeyed and you are in charge.” We learn this from the Lord, learn how weak we are to do anything to ease our condition, and so we PRAY unto God for everything. Paul may have thought, “I can get there” earlier, but now he prays, “Now God himself and our Father”, reconciliation and power, “and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you” (1 Thess 3:11). “God, you do for me and these saints. These are your people, it is your will that we persevere by the word, so get Christ unto them by the means appointed. We want to go help, but our will shall not triumph. Your will shall be done”. This is the language of 2 Cor 1, “But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead: who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we TRUST that he will yet deliver us” (2 Cor 1:9-10). The God of glory shall take care of us and His people, regardless of how things appear to be working out. But, He makes us taste of “near death” and trouble BEYOND your and my ability to conquer. We will be TRUSTING Him and looking to Him alone. We won’t have any strength or anything that we can do. By this, God will help His people, humble His people, and improve His people to minister God in Christ, rather than human glory and strength.
We are here for God’s glory, and we will be taught to honor Him in every aspect of life, learning the truth of His word.
