“And base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yes, and things which are not, to bring to naught things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence” (vs28-29)
God’s purposed that no flesh glory in His presence, that all glory for salvation go to His purpose of grace in Christ the Lord, that we’re saved without our effort and by the wisdom, righteousness, and power of God. God’s grace in Christ is free.
First, divisions among brethren are wrong, “For it has been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you” (I Cor 1:11). We all must proclaim Christ, living that He be seen. We cannot selfishly exalt anything or anyone else. If so, there is no peace. Only in elevating and glorifying His grace in word and deed can peace remain.
When Christ is diminished, trouble enters God’s house; it must be stopped, and when stopped, peace returns.
Secondly, only the gospel saves people, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God” (I Cor 1:18). Wisdom of men does nothing. Only faithfulness to the gospel accomplishes salvation with God. He gives and blesses the message, making us believe.
The gospel is healing, instructive, and meets every need of those who know Him. He uses nothing else to give or renew life. The gospel is the power of God.
The gospel is God’s message of mercy through the Son, whereby war is over, blessings are here for the taking, and the adversary can be defeated through faith in His blood. The Lord Jesus earned holiness; it is God’s gift to us through the Son.
Thirdly, Obedience to Christ is the fruit of Christ’s gospel, “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified” (I Cor 2:2). This is knowledge unto obedience, knowing Him by doing His will.
God blesses you to practice what you preach, believing fully, and then He blesses others by you.
