Two things make us serve God:
1. Fear of what will happen, if we don’t
2. Hope of what will happen, if we do.
There is no other reason to serve God than my own personal need of salvation. Take away the WARNINGS and the REWARDS, and service is meaningless. I will live my own boss. But, add in the PAIN of sin and the joy of FAITHFULNESS, and you will see sinners serving God by grace. We will come to Christ for strength sufficient to do His will, but it is ONLY when God stirs us up to DETEST and abhor sin by revealing it and the consequences to us. Until we are taught inwardly, service to God means nothing. But, when we fear, we flee to Christ to live. We have FEAR and hope.
