God Repented of the Evil (Jonah 3:10)

“Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.” (vs9-10)

We may doubt, but if we turn to God in Christ, as He has said, then He will forgive us.

The king and people have no assurance, but they venture on Christ and try Him for size. They yield to the Lord as sinners, admitting His right to do as He will (Job 42:5-6). They say, “I’m so bad, and He’s so holy, that if I’m rejected, then the fault is mine. I didn’t repent, really”. But, when the soul comes to Christ, doubts and all, the faith of God’s elect is unto salvation – “But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared” (Ps 130:4). God sees the faith of every repenter, and every person that leans on Jesus Christ to be why God will save me, as it is written, receives the salvation that’s promised – “But rather seek you the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Luke 12:31). It is not faith and a good past or faith and no sin in you; it is FAITH alone, in spite of, in the middle of, and just after the worst crimes against God. It is written, “great multitudes followed him, and healed them all” (Matt 12:15). It won’t matter what you’ve done, when you and I come to Christ, today. Doubts and all, all that would make us unacceptable, will be removed and favor shall fill you up (Joel 2:26).

God’s grace is Christ based, faithful, and true. We have nothing else to live for but Christ, so let us draw near daily for cleansing to DIRECT our ways, so that we can live the life that we’ve obtained – “And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Rom 12:2).
